Vinyl is my Master's thesis game which experiments with the aesthetic distance between gameplay and music.
You play as the needle on a record player, dodging obstacles, picking up unique music filter effects, and scratching back on the record to rewind your mistakes.
We began development on Vinyl by asking the question: how does altering a player's own music affect how they play a game?
By creating the game's world dynamically for every song, the visuals completely mirror the music. By directly manipulating the music based on the player's performance, the music completely mirrors the gameplay. This uniquely ties audio, visuals, and gameplay in a previously unexplored way.
Gas Dash is an educational game aimed at teaching children, ages 8 through 14, about natural gas safety hazards and how to respond in potentially dangerous situations. Spanning both home safety concerns and outdoor safety risks, Gas Dash runs the full gamut of natural gas safety education all while allowing children to learn through a fast-paced and fun video game.
While playing Gas Dash, students learn to avoid gas safety hazards like bubbling water on the ground or dead plants, both of which are signs of possible natural gas leaks. Along the way, they’ll enlist the help of the National Energy Foundation’s superhero Therm, who will rescue the player from harm’s way and reward the player for avoiding and identifying gas safety dangers. Players will even have the opportunity to answer quiz questions about natural gas safety to play longer and earn more stars!
